The six hours will cover such topics as: settings in which Medical Interpreting occurs, the professionals we may encounter in those settings, common medical jargon and abbreviations, how the interpreter’s role is defined in the area of Medical Interpreting and various organizations that support Medical Interpreters, resources for more information on Medical Interpreting, and group discussion. Trenton Marsh & Jennifer Harvey Storrer
A skill based workshop which, after discussing foundational information for Deaf and Hearing Interpreting teams, will provide the opportunity to practice working together. Some techniques that will be taught are how to approach clients, explain the interpreters' roles and how to arrange the participants for the best communication success in a variety of situations. We will also learn how to utilize each interpreter’s strengths in different situations, identify and understand each interpreter’s role in the communication process, some methods of feeding and receiving information and the various associated techniques necessary for a successful interpretation, and much more!

Sanderson Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Salt Lake City, Utah. She also works part-time as a freelance interpreter in the community and has 20 years of experience interpreting in a myriad of settings. Mentoring interpreters in the ICAN program is something new she is learning about and enjoying. Professionally her present enthusiasm is working with and supporting more Certified Deaf Interpreters in the area.
Trenton Marsh grew up in the Bay Area in California and attended the California School for the Deaf in Fremont. After graduation, he majored in Art at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) in Rochester, New York. After a year and a half, however, Trenton decided to explore the Rocky Mountain area and spent the next 11 years in the mountains of Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. During that time, he became involved with various aspects of interpreting- first serving as a language mentor to students majoring in interpreting; becoming a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) and later developing and coordinating an intensive and individualized interpreter mentoring program for two years. Trenton is currently a full-time staff interpreter at the Robert G. Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Salt Lake City, Utah.
