List of Position Duties
President's duties
- Shall have general supervision and direction of the business and affairs of the organization,
- Shall call and preside over all meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors,
- Shall appoint chairs for such committees as are established by these By-laws and as may be established ad hoc,
- Shall communicate affairs of the organization to the membership at meetings of the membership, and in such other manners as are deemed prompt and appropriate,
- Shall perform such tasks and duties as are assigned by the membership and/or the Board of Directors,
- May establish such short-term committees as are found necessary for the business of the organization.
- May countersign checks and warrants for the withdrawal of organizational funds.
Vice-President's duties
- Shall, in the absence of the President, perform all the duties of the President, bearing all the powers of the President.
- Shall perform such tasks and duties as are assigned by the membership and/or the Board of Directors,
- May countersign checks and warrants for the withdrawal of organizational funds.
Secretary's duties
- Shall keep and maintain full and accurate minutes of all meetings of the organization, both of the Board of Directors and of the general membership, making such minutes available to any
Director or member upon request not more than 14 days following the meeting in question,
- Shall maintain organizational records, minutes, and correspondence,
- Shall supervise the maintenance of records pertaining to membership of the organization,
- Shall keep the seal of the organization and affix it to such papers and instruments as may be necessary in the course of business,
- Shall issue meeting notices as are required to establish duly called meetings and actions,
- Shall perform such tasks and duties as are assigned by the membership and/or the Board of Directors,
- May countersign checks and warrants for the withdrawal of organizational funds.
Treasurer's duties
- Shall maintain full and accurate records of the organization, making at least quarterly financial reports to the membership
- Shall promptly pay authorized and routine payments for authorized expenditures,
- Shall supervise budget planning and forecasting to ensure the organization's financial solvency,
- Shall sign all checks, deposits, and warrants for the withdrawal of organizational funds,
- Shall submit an annual financial statement, outlining and describing all receipts and disbursements, to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Regional Representative and Home Office
within 30 days of the end of each membership year.
- Shall submit by November 15 of each year form IR-990 (Return of Organizations Exempt from Income Tax) to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Regional Representative and Home
Office,
- Shall perform such tasks and duties as are assigned by the membership and/or the Board of Directors.
Past President's duties
- Shall coordinate the transfer of power upon leaving the office of the President
- Shall advise the Board of Directors on organizational history to ensure cohesion from Board to Board,
- Shall perform such tasks and duties as are assigned by the membership and/or the Board of Directors.
Community Representative 1,2,3's duties
- Shall serve as liaison between the membership and the Board of Directors,
- Shall assist in coordinating activities and communications of the organization,
- Shall serve as resource-persons to the membership,
- Shall perform such tasks and duties as are assigned by the membership and/or the Board of Directors.
By-Laws duties
The Bylaws Committee shall recommend Bylaws revisions and amendments, assure that the adopted Bylaws are followed, and provide a parliamentarian to meetings of the membership;
Evaluation/Certification duties
The Evaluation/Certification Committee shall facilitate members in understanding, and participating in, the certification process, and keep members abreast of any certification maintenance programs.
Fund-Raising duties
The Fund-Raising Committee shall plan, coordinate, and execute programs to generate financial support for the organization.
Legislative duties
The Legislative Committee shall follow legislation and other regulatory policies affecting interpreters.
Membership duties
The Membership Committee shall recruit and orient new members to the organization, and shall work with the Secretary in maintaining membership rolls.
Mentorship duties
To become a mentor or a mentee with SDCRID, we need to understand exactly what each mentor and each mentee want from the relationship. This process is fluid and flexible as we try to meet everyone’s needs. We will start a dialogue that will hopefully lead to a fruitful professional relationship for you and your mentor/mentee.
Nominations duties
The Nominations Committee shall create a slate of qualified candidates for elected offices, identify members who are interested in serving on committees, and assist with the conduct of elections.
Professional Development duties
The Professional Development Committee shall plan, organize and conduct workshops, seminars and the like to encourage skill development and enhancement.
Public Relations duties
The Public Relations Committee shall coordinate communication between the organization an those not familiar with the field of interpreting, and serve as a public advocate of the rights of interpreters and hearing-impaired individuals.
Publications duties
The Publications Committee shall publish the organization's newsletter.
Scholarship duties
The Scholarship Committee shall develop guidelines for scholarship programs, including one to assist with supporting candidates for certification, award scholarships based on established guidelines, and work with the Fundraising Committee for raising scholarship funds.
Web Development duties
To develop the SDCRID Web site as our organization's definitive resource for up-to-the-minute information on itself; to inspire and inform SDCRID members and visitors from around the world; and, to develop our committee members' skills in the development and publication of Web content.
