"Working with Deaf People: A Deaf Perspective" 
with Ben Lewis, ASL Instructor at UCLA

Come and learn some basic techniques on how to improve your interpreting skills from a Deaf perspective! Engaging in these strategies and anecdotes from the field, will offer you a better perspective on the interpreting field. In this workshop, we will address: 

  • Appropriate expansion and compression techniques that benefit the Deaf recipient
  • Negotiating situations in which a Deaf consumer requests the interpreter's advice 
  • and more! 
Saturday March 16th from 9:00 am to 11:00am, please arrive no later than 8:45 for coffee, bagels, parking and good seats! We will begin promptly at 9 and (0.2) CEU's will only be awarded to those who arrive by 9:05 and stay till 11. This workshop will be conducted in ASL, no interpreters will be provided.

We will be having our General Membership Meeting immediately following this workshop. The meeting will be from 11:15 till 1:00pm. At the meeting we will continue our voting for Bylaws changes AND vote on the Membership dues for 2013-2014. If you are a member and want your vote to count, please do stay for the meeting.

This event is FREE to members if you pre-register by Tuesday March 12, 5:00pm. After that, everyone will pay $10. SDCRID will provide refunds up until March 8, all requests must be in writing and sent to PDC@sdcrid.org
