SDCRID Scholarships
SDCRID offers scholarships to help local interpreters by awarding compensation (on a reimbursement basis) for the generalist knowledge exam or the performance exam. SDCRID also provides stipends as an effort to further diversify and support the growth of our local interpreting pool.

Procedure FOR PERFORMANCE TEST SCHOLARSHIP: 5 scholarships
Procedure FOR Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) KNOWLEDGE TEST SCHOLARSHIP: 5 scholarships
Procedure for Second Year Black Indigenous People Of Color (BIPOC) Student Stipend: 5 stipends at $150 each
Confirm with the Scholarships chair that scholarship funds are still available.
Send the verification letter from the faculty of the program in which you are enrolled as a 2nd year student.
Have been a SDCRID member in good standing prior to applying.
Fill out the scholarship application (copy from below.)
Must be the first time requesting a stipend from SDCRID
Procedure for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) GAP Interpreter Stipend: 5 stipends at $150 each
We define GAP interpreters as those who are no longer students and are not yet certified. These stipends are for GAP interpreters to use toward professional development expenses en route to becoming certified. GAP Interpreters also include those with non traditional pathways to becoming certified interpreters (this includes Deaf interpreters and heritage signers).

***Each person is allowed only one scholarship/stipend. If someone receives a scholarship and fails to pass or is re-taking for a higher level, that person may not receive further scholarships through SDCRID for the same exam. However, if an applicant has taken the exam, but did not receive a scholarship from SDCRID for the previous exam, and would like to retake it, that person is eligible for a scholarship. ***
